The digital
workspace

One of the most important tasks will be establishing a digital workspace for the co-op members. It will be the backbone of the co-op as it will be a place for discussion, collaboration, and decision-making within the established constituency groups and working groups. It will help us get organised, identify areas of collaboration, as well as it will be a place for members to volunteer their skills and expertise to help run the enterprise. Access to the platform will be free and open to all linguists who can prove their professional status.

Open-source
platform

The platform will be a complete IT system that will allow members to create their own profiles, start and join group conversations, or reach any other co-op member on any device anytime. Users will participate in channels through which announcements, news, files, or job offers will be shared. Because the platform is open-source software, it is free and it can be freely modified. And so in the future, it will be expanded with custom-made features for linguists to manage or collaborate on job assignments received through the co-op.

Areas of
collaboration

Because one of the fundamental rules of the co-operative movement is that co-op members are expected to contribute their resources and take on responsibilities, the digital workspace will be a place where linguists will be able to do just that. There will be many possibilities for members to help out and share their input. Possible areas of collaboration will include:

  • Providing language services
  • Growing client base
  • Growing membership
  • Governance
  • Professional development and support
  • Advocacy
  • Event organising

Skill share

Members will be encouraged to specify what skills and expertise they can offer to help run a successful and sustainable enterprise. Each area of collaboration will require people with different knowledge and set of skills. We will welcome contributions from members who are skilled in:

  • Translation and interpreting
  • Administrative duties
  • Accounting
  • Sales
  • Managing customer relationships
  • Writing and copywriting
  • Social media
  • Event organising
  • Networking
  • Public relations
  • Web design
  • SEO
